Mentee Overview
Welcome to eXp Realty! We are happy that you are here. To help ensure your success as a REALTOR®, you have been enrolled in The Mentor Program.
We are working to pair you with a mentor as quickly as possible, however, in the meantime please rely on your state broker(s) for assistance with contracts, negotiations, and other real estate sales-related questions.
The decision to evaluate and/or issue waivers from the Program is determined on a case-by-case basis. If you’d like to know more about this process, please reach out to the Mentor Program at mentorprogram@exprealty.net.
This document is here to assist you in learning more about the Program and help you hit the ground running as we work to get you paired with an eXp Certified Mentor.
Who is a Mentee?
Mentor Program
The Mentor Program provides newly licensed agents a learning platform where you will gain the fundamental knowledge required to start and build a successful real estate career. Each mentee is paired with a certified eXp Realty mentor who is a member of the same MLS.
WHO IS A MENTEE
Generally, if an Agent has not completed three purchase Transactions or sale Transactions (or any combination thereof) within the twelve (12) month period immediately preceding the Agent’s Onboard Date (collectively, the “Mentor Program Requirements”), the Agent will be required to participate in the eXp Mentor Program, as a mentee, upon transfer of their license to eXp. Each new agent is paired with an experienced agent who is a state broker-approved Certified Mentor shortly after the new agent’s license is transferred to eXp Realty. The decision to evaluate and/or issue waivers from the Program is determined on a case-by-case basis. If you’d like to know more about this process, please reach out to the Mentor Program at mentorprogram@exprealty.net.
WHO IS A MENTEE - North Carolina
Effective April 1, 2021 for NC Agents: All provisional brokers AND those who have not completed three (3) transactions within the previous twelve (12) month period are required to participate as a mentee in the program even if North Carolina is not the primary licensed state.
Mentee Expectations
We want you to be successful and will provide you with the tools and resources to do so, however, your success also depends on what you put into the Program. Accountability of yourself within the Program is important, so review the following information to understand what is expected of you as a mentee.
- Attend state meetings and meet with their mentor regularly until the mentee graduates from the Program.
- Attend the weekly eXp Leadership Meeting on Fridays at 8 a.m. PT/ 11 a.m. ET in the eXp.world Auditorium (also available through the eXp Realty World App).
- Attend and complete the following core eXp Realty classes: Skyslope, World Tour, and Agent Orientation: eXp Event Calendar
- Complete the NPS Surveys while enrolled in the program
- Complete all Mentor Program course curriculums (including the GO! Curriculum) in eXp’s learning management system, including all course assignments. The GO! Curriculum aims to establish the standards for the Mentee’s experience within the Mentor Program and equip Mentees with the best educational foundation necessary to jump-start their real estate business. Not only will the Curriculum provide the Mentee with a robust transactional foundation to stand on, but also consistency in their experience and expectations about the Program. Some assignments will require mentor participation and oversight; including, but not limited to, state-specific content. Mentee is aware of and agrees to complete this coursework within the first 90 days of being paired with a mentor
- Make themselves available, and adjust their schedules accordingly, in order to “shadow” their mentor on each of the following meetings at least once, should that be required by the mentor. Below are examples of appointments that a mentee might shadow or role-play with their mentor, depending on their mentor's area of expertise:
-
- Listing Appointment
- Buyer Presentation
- Presenting the Contract
- Home Inspection/Negotiating the Repairs
- Final Walkthrough
- Closing Appointment
- A mentee shall pay the Mentor fee of 20% on their required transactions within the Program.
Being Paired with a Mentor
When you are paired with a mentor, you will receive an email with your new mentor’s contact information. Connect with your mentor as soon as possible and discuss your goals and expectations.
NPS Surveys
The NPS survey initiative aims to enhance the mentorship experience within the Mentor Program by using agent feedback to elevate its quality. Mentees will receive surveys to complete throughout their progress in the Mentor Program. Mentors will have a chance to provide feedback on their experience in the Mentor Program as well. Survey results will assist the Mentor Program in refining and creating meaningful connections within the eXp agents community.
Graduation
Once you have met all graduation requirements and your required transactions have closed, you will be flagged for graduation review. There is no action required from you or your mentor to trigger this review, however, if you have any questions regarding Mentor Program graduation, please reach out to mentorprogram@exprealty.net.
Mentor Changes
Request Change of Mentor by Email
There are various reasons a mentee might have the need to change mentors. If there is a justifiable reason to switch mentors, and the existing mentor is notified and in agreement, you may request a Change of Mentor Form by emailing mentorprogram@exprealty.net. Please state the reasons for the change and include the new mentor name on the form. The Mentor Program can also provide names of mentors for the mentee to call and pick from. Please make your new mentor selection within three days of receiving mentor options from the Mentor Program; The Mentor Program cannot process change forms without a requested mentor. The Mentor Program will send the Mentor Change Request form to the mentee to fill out. The form will need to be approved by the Mentor Program and the former mentor.
Mentor Dissatisfaction
Should a mentee feel their assigned mentor is not fulfilling their role and responsibility as a Certified Mentor, is unresponsive to the mentee, or is operating with unethical practices, the mentee is encouraged to contact the Mentor Program immediately. There will be an evaluation of the concerns brought forward and the appropriate steps will be taken to address said concerns. Escalation paths may involve the state brokers. The state team always reserves the right to terminate the pairing between mentor and mentee, should they deem necessary.
Offboarding Mentor
If your mentor leaves eXp Realty you will automatically be queued for a reassignment to a new mentor. Please note that this will not occur until the mentor has officially off-boarded from eXp. If you are made aware your mentor is in the process of offboarding in advance but they are still active at eXp, please email mentorprogram@exprealty.net so that your reassignment can be initiated.
Please note that if the original assigned mentor has met and/or held virtual training sessions with the mentee, with time and resources being extended on part of the mentor prior to the mentor change request being made, the mentor reserves the right to be compensated, most especially if there is a deal under contract for the mentee. The full 20% fee will be paid by the mentee on any pending transaction(s). If there are reasons the mentor should not be paid, please list those reasons on the form. All Mentor Change Form requests will be reviewed and the outcome will be on a case by case basis. The Mentor Program and/or broker reserves the right to deny any mentor change deemed unwarranted.
Teams
Standard and Mega ICON Teams
eXp agents on a Standard or Mega Team are exempt from the Mentor Program. If they are on a Standard or Mega Team and were added to the Mentor Program, they need to communicate with the Onboarding Team (onboarding@exprealty.net) to complete the required team documentation. A new agent, in the process of joining a team, will remain in the Mentor Program with a status of “to be paired,” UNTIL their team documentation is completed. Pairing will proceed for these Mentees IF their Team Docs are not executed within 30 days.
Team Leaders or Team Members must be licensed in the same state as the mentee to have them waived from the Mentor Program. Once the team documents are uploaded into Enterprise and the Program is notified, the Mentor Program team will remove the mentee from the Program. They can email mentorprogram@exprealty.net if assistance is needed.
If the team does not have state alignment by Team Members or Team Lead, the mentee cannot be waived from the Mentor Program and will be paired with a Certified Mentor who is licensed in their state. *State alignment is defined as a team member/leader licensed in the same state as mentee.
Mentees are allowed to join a Team while participating in the Mentor Program, though it is encouraged that Teams allow mentees to complete the Program before recruiting them to their team. This will allow for the full training of a new agent and fair compensation to the Certified Mentor working with that mentee.
Self-Organized Teams
If a mentee is on a Self-Organized team and the team lead is a Certified Mentor, the mentee can be waived IF the mentor/team lead is licensed in the same state as the mentee. If you are a Self-Organized Team Lead who is a Certified Mentor and you would like to keep your mentee enrolled in the Mentor Program you must contact the program to avoid them being waived. For additional questions concerning SOTs and mentees, please contact mentorprogram@exprealty.net.
* Policies may differ in NC based on state law requirements.
Domestic Teams
Primary agents of domestic teams are required to participate in the Mentor Program if the agent is newly licensed or completed less than three transactions in the past 12 months. Secondary agents are waived from the Mentor Program. If the secondary agent is added to the Program in error please contact mentorprogram@exprealty.net.
