Canadian Mentor Program Manual
Welcome to the eXp Mentor Program
The eXp Mentor Program provides participating mentees with a partner and a path to gain
the fundamental knowledge needed to build a successful real estate career. Each mentee is paired with an experienced agent who is certified through the Mentor Program.
Any agent who feels that they’ll benefit from the transactional guidance of a local, Certified Mentor may opt into the Mentor Program at any time.
Certified Mentors must demonstrate proficiency in the field of real estate and be
approved by their Provincial Broker Team. The mentor’s objective is to provide guidance
in a practical, hands-on way, as their mentees navigate their three transactions within the Program.
To opt-in to the eXp Mentor Program as a mentee or apply to become a Certified Mentor, please open this link and complete the appropriate application.
If a mentee has not already completed the eXp New Agent Bootcamp, they will be enrolled at the time of opting-in to the Mentor Program. The New Agent Bootcamp is an educational program that provides participants with a foundation of practical training to build their careers.
You can learn more about the New Agent Bootcamp here.

Mentor Program Fee
At the time of opting into the eXp Mentor Program, the mentee agrees to the following commission split on their Mentor Program transactions: A 20% Mentor Program Fee will be paid to the eXp Mentor Program for each Program transaction. The Mentor Program Fee is applied to the first three transactions within the Program.
The Mentor Program Fee shall be assessed against, and collected from, each closed transaction within the Program, and shall be in an amount that is equal to twenty percent (20%) of the Gross Commission Income generated in each such Program transaction. (For avoidance of doubt, Gross Commission Income is that amount generated in a Transaction PRIOR TO application of the Company Dollar and Contractor Dollar splits, as described in the ICA).
*If a mentee has multiple open transactions - specifically relating to the final qualifying transaction needed for graduation, the Mentor Program fee will be assessed on the transaction that has the earliest input/contract date.
For example, if the mentee's listing (seller) has a list date of April 25, an under-contract date of May 20, and is closing on June 15, while the mentee's buyer has an under-contract date of May 22 and a closing date of June 10, the fee would be assessed on the property with the earliest start date (i.e. listing agreement date or under contract date), which, in this scenario, would be the listing.
Important Note: The Mentor Program Fee (20%) is a separate fee that is charged in addition to any company or team splits. This fee does not count toward satisfying the Agent’s Company Dollar Cap for any Capping Period. Both the Mentor Program Fee and the Company Dollar are calculated and deducted from the Gross Commission Income at the same time; however, they are entirely separate charges.
Example: If an Agent is on an 80/20 split prior to enrolling in the Mentor Program, their split will be adjusted to 60/40 upon opting into the Program.
The 20% Mentor Program Fee is collected in two parts:
Part 1: Mentor Fee
A Mentor Fee of 10% GCI is paid to eXp on each transaction within the Program - This 10% is then paid directly to the Certified Mentor to compensate them for their support on the transaction.
Part 2: Program Fee
A Program Fee of 10% GCI is paid to eXp on each transaction within the Program - These fees support the costs of running the Program (staff support, curriculums, training, resources, etc.)
* The Mentor fee CANNOT be negotiated under any circumstance. They may not negotiate, barter services, or give gifts to waive the fees.
For questions or clarification regarding the Mentor Program Fee please reach out to the Mentor Program at cdnmentorship@exprealty.net
Mentor Program Transactions
The Mentor Program aims to provide guidance and mentorship to agents engaged in transactions while ensuring an equitable compensation structure. This structure ensures that experienced agents can share their expertise with their assigned mentees while facilitating their professional growth and development.
All transaction types (with the exception of outgoing referrals) are permitted within the Mentor Program, providing that the mentor/mentee are in agreement, and the mentor is qualified to provide guidance on the specific transaction.
* Please note in your transaction management system that you intend for this transaction to apply within the Mentor Program and count toward your graduation requirements
Dual Transactions
Where permitted, Dual Transactions can apply within the Mentor Program; however, combining the fees for both sides of the transaction to meet the qualification criteria will not be allowed. The mentee will work with the mentor on both sides of the transaction and pay 20% (10% to the Mentor and 10% to the Mentor Program) on each side, and both sides will count toward graduation (2 transactions).
For questions regarding a specific transaction, please reach out to the Mentor Program at cdnmentorship@exprealty.net.
Teams
If an eXp agent is on a team at the time of opting into the Mentor Program, their transactions within the Program may be subject to the Mentor Program fee in addition to any team splits/fees.
If an eXp agent joins a team while participating in the Mentor Program, their transactions within the Program may be subject to Mentor Program fees in addition to any team splits/fees. If you are an active mentee within the Mentor Program who is interested in joining a team, please reach out to Mentor Program staff to discuss your options which may include exiting the Program.
Mentor Changes
There are various reasons why a mentee may wish to change mentors. If there is a justifiable reason to switch mentors, you may request a mentor change by emailing cdnmentorship@exprealty.net.
Mentor change requests will be reviewed and the outcome will be decided on a case-by-case basis. The Mentor Program and/or broker reserves the right to deny any mentor change deemed unwarranted.
Please note that if the originally assigned mentor has met their obligations as a mentor prior to the mentor change request being made, the Mentor Program reserves the right to collect Mentor Program fees on any transactions that are pending at the time of the change request and the previous mentor may be compensated for their support.
Should a mentee feel that their assigned mentor is not fulfilling their role and responsibility as a Certified Mentor, is unresponsive, or is operating with unethical practices, the mentee is encouraged to contact the Mentor Program immediately. There will be an evaluation of the concerns brought forward and the appropriate steps will be taken to address the concerns. Escalation paths may involve the provincial broker team who reserves the right to terminate the pairing should they deem it necessary.
Leaving the Program
MENTEES
If a mentee leaves the Program for any reason, the mentor will not be compensated unless there are pending transactions (that the mentor assisted with). The Mentor Program reserves the right to collect Mentor Program fees on any transactions that are pending at the time of the mentee exiting the Program and the previous mentor may be compensated for their support.
MENTORS
If the mentor leaves the Program for any reason, the mentee will automatically be queued for reassignment to a new mentor. Please note that this will not occur until the mentor has officially off-boarded from eXp. If you are made aware the mentor is in the process of offboarding in advance but is still active with eXp, please email cdnmentorship@exprealty.net so that the reassignment can be initiated.
If you no longer wish to participate in the eXp Mentor Program, please contact our team at cdnmentorship@exprealty.net
Mentor Program Graduation
Once a mentee has met all graduation requirements and their required transactions have closed, they will be flagged for graduation review. There is no action required from the mentee/mentor to trigger this review, however, if you have any questions regarding Mentor Program graduation, please contact cdnmentorship@exprealty.net
Mentee Graduation Requirements:
- Mentee has closed three transactions within the Program with the support and guidance of their mentor (these transactions must be closed and funded prior to graduation review)
- Mentee has successfully completed the New Agent Bootcamp curriculum
GETTING HELP PAST THREE TRANSACTIONS
If the mentee and mentor mutually agree to work together beyond three transactions, eXp will waive its Program fee of 10%, but the mentee will be required to continue to compensate their mentor at 10% for as many transactions as agreed upon. In order for eXp to waive the Program fee (10%) on these additional transactions, the mentee MUST have met the graduation requirements for the Program. NPS SURVEYS
The NPS survey initiative aims to enhance the mentorship experience within the Mentor Program by using agent feedback to elevate its quality. Mentees will receive surveys to complete throughout their progress in the Mentor Program. Mentors will have a chance to provide feedback on their experience in the Mentor Program as well. Survey results will assist the Mentor Program in refining and creating meaningful connections within the eXp agents community.
